Book: Hosea; one of the 12 minor prophets

Time period: Latter part of the 8th century BC

Main Idea: Israel is in a persistent state of idolatry to the dominant weather/fertility god, Baal and due to their failure to repent, the Lord provides foresight to Hosea of what was to come if Israel remained in their fallen away state. The kicker here though, is that Hosea was called by God to also live out this relationship between the Lord and His harlotus bride (literally commanding this man of God to marry a prostitute!). But because God's mercy always exceeds His judgment, the mercy of God is also put on full display as He promises to pursue His people to the point of unhindered fellowship.
